Indonesia’s Cinema on the Rise in Cambodia
Audience enthusiasm in Cambodia toward Indonesian films has shown a positive trend in recent years. Based on data from Cambodia’s Department of Cinema and Cultural Diffusion, in 2025 Indonesian films ranked as the third most-screened foreign films in Cambodian cinemas, following Hollywood and local productions. In fact, approximately 18% of films screened in Cambodian cinemas originated from Indonesia, reflecting growing audience interest in Indonesian content. This growth is further supported by strong audience reception, indicating an appreciation not only for horror genres but also for the diversity of storytelling and the overall production quality of Indonesian films.
Project Overview
Indonesia on Screen, held on February 12, 2026 at Legend Cinema Olympia in Phnom Penh, was a cultural initiative by the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Phnom Penh, featuring a special screening of Boundless Love. The event was designed as a strategic effort to enhance the visibility of Indonesian cinema in Cambodia while fostering cross-border collaboration within the creative industry.
Supported by the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts of Cambodia and organized in collaboration with Nanyang Bridge Media, the program was structured into two key segments. The first was an industry discussion forum that brought together film industry players to exchange insights on collaboration opportunities, content development, and market potential. The second was a public screening session, attended by a diverse audience including industry professionals, government representatives, and university students.
