Project Background

On September 22, 2026, the “Guangdong Meets the Asia-Pacific” event, part of the “Guangdong Goods, Global Reach” initiative, brought together representatives from government, business, media, and cultural communities at Lotte Mall Jakarta, celebrating the growing connections between Guangdong Province and Indonesia.

Organized by Southern Newspaper Media Group and co-organized by South International Communication Center (SOUTH) and the Indonesia-China Friendship Association, the event introduced Indonesian audiences to Guangdong’s rich traditions, creative industries, and technological innovations.

Nanyang Bridge Media (NYB) participated as one of the event’s co-presenters, supporting a shared vision of bringing people closer through culture, communication, and meaningful connections.

For NYB, the collaboration represented an opportunity to celebrate the longstanding relationship between Indonesia and China while creating new spaces for cultural discovery and mutual understanding.

Project Objectives

The initiative aimed to bring Guangdong closer to Indonesian audiences through cultural experiences, product exhibitions, and opportunities for dialogue. The event focused on three key objectives:

1. Introducing Guangdong’s Culture and Innovation

Showcase Guangdong’s cultural heritage, traditional products, creative industries, and technological developments to Indonesian audiences.

2. Encouraging Cultural Discovery

Create opportunities for visitors to experience Guangdong through exhibitions, photography, fashion, and cultural storytelling.

3. Strengthening Indonesia–China Connections

Bring together representatives from government, business, media, and cultural organizations to encourage dialogue and explore opportunities for future collaboration.

Event Highlights & Execution

1. Guangdong Goods Exhibition

The event showcased more than 60 Guangdong products, ranging from traditional Lingnan delicacies and cultural creations to lifestyle products and innovative technologies.

Through the Guangdong Goods Exhibition, visitors experienced the province’s diversity firsthand, discovering how centuries-old traditions continue to evolve alongside modern creativity and innovation.

Beyond introducing Guangdong products to Indonesia, the exhibition created opportunities for visitors to discover the stories, craftsmanship, and cultural identities behind them.

2. Guangdong Photography Exhibition

A dedicated photography exhibition offered visitors a visual journey through Guangdong’s landscapes, architecture, and cultural heritage.

Through carefully presented images, Indonesian audiences were invited to discover the province’s natural beauty, modern development, and cultural identity.

The exhibition demonstrated how visual storytelling can bring distant places closer, allowing visitors to experience Guangdong through the perspectives of its photographers.

3. Guangdong Finds Fashion Show

The celebration also extended to the stage through the Guangdong Finds Fashion Show, where models presented Guangdong-inspired fashion alongside cultural and creative products.

Combining traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design, the showcase offered visitors another perspective on Guangdong’s evolving cultural identity.

Together, the exhibitions and fashion showcase demonstrated how culture can travel across borders through products, images, design, and shared experiences.

4. Cultural Dialogue and Industry Collaboration

Beyond the exhibitions, the event brought together distinguished guests and industry representatives to discuss opportunities for stronger cooperation between Guangdong and Indonesia.

Ivan Chen (陈穗亮), Chairman of the Standing Committee for Cultural Development at the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN), emphasized the importance of equal dialogue in cultural exchange. In an interview with SOUTH, he highlighted the need for cultural cooperation to recognize the perspectives and contributions of both countries.

Meanwhile, Haris Chandra (张锦泉), Senior Honorary Chairman of the Federation of Indonesian Guangdong Associations, expressed hope that more Guangdong enterprises and entrepreneurs would explore opportunities in Indonesia, particularly in technology.

His remarks reflected the growing recognition of Chinese brands among Indonesian consumers and the potential for stronger economic cooperation between the two regions.

The event also provided opportunities for dialogue between representatives from Indonesia and Guangdong, highlighting the potential for closer cooperation in cultural exchange, business, media, and the creative industries. These conversations reflected a shared interest in strengthening connections between the two regions and exploring opportunities for future collaboration. These exchanges reflected the event’s broader significance: creating opportunities for cultural understanding to develop into meaningful connections and future partnerships.

NYB’s Role in the Project

As one of the event’s co-presenters, Nanyang Bridge Media joined an initiative that brought Guangdong’s culture, creativity, and innovation closer to Indonesian audiences.

The collaboration reflected NYB’s commitment to connecting China and Indonesia through cultural exchange, communication, and shared experiences.

For NYB, cultural promotion goes beyond introducing products or organizing gatherings. It is about creating opportunities for people to discover different perspectives, appreciate shared traditions, and build relationships that extend beyond individual events.

Through its participation in “Guangdong Meets the Asia-Pacific,” NYB continued supporting this vision of building bridges between communities and cultures.

Beyond these measurable results, the event provided opportunities for cultural discovery, meaningful conversations, and stronger connections between Guangdong and Indonesian communities.

Beyond the Event: Continuing Cultural Exchange Through Film

NYB’s commitment to strengthening Indonesia–China cultural connections also extends to the Nanyang Film Festival (NFF).

Held from October 9 to 11, 2026, the festival featured a dedicated Guangdong Film Showcase, presenting a selection of films curated by the Guangdong Motion Picture Industry Association.

Although NFF was a separate initiative from the September 22 event, both reflected a shared purpose: introducing Guangdong’s culture, creativity, and stories to Indonesian audiences.

While “Guangdong Meets the Asia-Pacific” connected visitors with the province through products, photography, and cultural exhibitions, the Nanyang Film Festival offered another perspective through the universal language of cinema.

Together, these initiatives demonstrate how cultural exchange can take many forms, from exhibitions and creative collaborations to stories shared on screen.

For Nanyang Bridge Media, each initiative represents another opportunity to bring communities closer, deepen mutual understanding, and build lasting relationships.

Because meaningful bridges between cultures are built through every story shared, every connection made, and every willingness to understand one another.
