Nanyang Bridge Media

Jakarta is taking meaningful steps toward becoming one of Southeast Asia’s leading film and production destinations. With growing international partnerships, government support, and an increasingly connected creative industry, the city is opening new opportunities for filmmakers, production companies, and businesses across the global film ecosystem.

As part of this initiative, Nanyang Bridge Media was honored to be an official sponsor of the Jakarta Film Summit 2026, held from October 20–22, 2026, at Park Hyatt Jakarta. The summit brought together prominent figures from Indonesia’s film industry, international organizations, government representatives, and creative industry stakeholders to exchange ideas, strengthen industry connections, and explore opportunities for future collaboration.

For Nanyang Bridge Media, being part of this gathering reflects its continued engagement with the evolving film and media landscape and its interest in connecting creative opportunities across Indonesia, China, and Singapore.

A Meeting Point for Film Industry Leaders and International Perspectives

Jakarta Film Summit 2026 brought together industry leaders, policymakers, filmmakers, and international stakeholders to discuss the future of the film industry. Through panel discussions featuring Indonesian and international figures, including representatives from the Asian Film Alliance Network (AFAN) and government officials, the summit explored opportunities in production, investment, and cross-border collaboration.

Recognising the growing influence of AI in shaping the future of filmmaking, Nanyang Bridge Media helped bring this dimension to the summit by facilitating a keynote presentation by Alibaba Cloud, exploring the evolving intersection of AI, technology and the creative industry.

Ibrahim Septiansyah, Strategic Engagement Lead at Alibaba Cloud Indonesia, shared insights into how AI is creating new possibilities across film production and content development, highlighting the growing intersection between technological innovation and filmmaking.

Strengthening the Film Ecosystem Through Strategic Partnerships

A significant moment during the summit was the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing facilitated by the Jakarta Film Commission, the organizer of Jakarta Film Summit 2026. The agreements involved four parties: Badan Perfilman Indonesia (BPI), Yeni Kutay Film Produksiyon Limited Şirketi, Netflix, and Bank Jakarta.

The partnerships reflect Jakarta’s efforts to strengthen cooperation across different areas of the film industry, connecting institutional stakeholders, international production interests, and financial institutions.

Discovering Jakarta’s Potential as a Filming Destination

Beyond the discussions and formal meetings, Jakarta Film Summit 2026 also introduced participants to the city’s filming potential through its Scouting Day program. The initiative invited industry professionals to explore selected locations across Jakarta, offering a closer look at the city’s diverse landscapes, architectural character, cultural heritage, and urban environments.

The program also highlighted Filming in Jakarta, a one-stop service developed to simplify the filmmaking process by facilitating production permits, location scouting, and coordination with relevant stakeholders.

Through this initiative, filmmakers and production companies can access a more streamlined process when planning and carrying out productions in Jakarta. It also provides international industry players with greater insight into the city’s production facilities, locations, and support systems.

For a city with a distinctive combination of modern infrastructure, historical landmarks, and cultural diversity, these efforts create opportunities to attract more domestic and international film productions.

Government Support and Incentives for the Film Industry

Strengthening Jakarta’s position as a filming destination also requires supportive policies and practical incentives. During the summit, the Jakarta Provincial Government highlighted its commitment to creating a more accessible and competitive environment for film production.

Among the initiatives introduced were a 50% discount on filming locations and a 50% refund of entertainment tax on ticket sales for domestic films screened in cinemas. These measures are intended to support film production activities, encourage domestic cinema, and provide additional opportunities for the growth of the local film industry.

Government representatives share insights into Jakarta's initiatives and policy support for strengthening the local film and production industry.

Combined with the Filming in Jakarta service, these initiatives demonstrate how government support can contribute to a more integrated film ecosystem, making Jakarta increasingly attractive to production companies and creative industry stakeholders.

The summit also provided an opportunity to hear directly from government representatives about the city’s vision and initiatives for the future of its film industry.
