SANYA, August 18, 2025 – The “China Walk: Vibrant Hainan” program officially opened in Sanya, Hainan Province, as part of preparations for the upcoming launch of the Hainan Free Trade Port on December 18. The event brought together dozens of journalists from Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, Malaysia, and other ASEAN countries, serving as a key moment to further strengthen economic relations between Hainan and ASEAN nations.

In his remarks, Wang Bin, a Standing Committee Member of the CPC Hainan Provincial Committee and Director of the Publicity Department of Hainan, emphasized that cooperation between Hainan and ASEAN has achieved tangible results in recent years, spanning trade, technological innovation, and tourism. With its new status as a free trade port, Hainan is expected to become a new hub of economic growth, opening broader opportunities for ASEAN partners.

“Hainan will continue to unlock the potential of economic and trade cooperation with ASEAN. The policy dividends of the Free Trade Port will serve as a driving force for building a shared and mutually beneficial economic future,” Wang Bin stated.

The program features a series of activities, including visits to research and innovation centers, modern agricultural facilities, and advanced medical institutions, showcasing how Hainan is building an innovation-driven ecosystem that can be jointly leveraged with ASEAN countries. This aligns with the province’s vision of positioning itself as an international hub for trade, research, and tourism.
Meanwhile, Zhang Hui, Deputy Director-General of CMG’s Asia-Africa Regional Broadcasting Center, highlighted that the initiative also serves as a platform for media diplomacy, fostering closer people-to-people ties.

As the official launch of the Hainan Free Trade Port draws nearer, ASEAN–Hainan economic cooperation is set to enter a more strategic phase. Hainan is not only becoming China’s gateway to Southeast Asia but also a symbol of regional connectivity and shared prosperity.
